Dear Families/Carers,

This has certainly been a challenging time for everyone. Staff and myself know that a lot has changed in just a few weeks and that our new daily lives look a little different.

Firstly, we would like to thank you for your support, placing your trust in us and working with us. Please make sure you let me know how I can assist you and your family.

We know that for many of our families, you are trying to work out your own details and your new kind of normal too. We know that you are being pulled in various directions and having to make decisions that you believe are the best for your family.

Throughout this tricky time we are going to remain in contact with you all through various means. We will be making phone calls to check in as well answer any questions. Facebook will also be a part of the communication. Please look around your community and encourage any of your friends or family who are not on here to join to the Iluka Public School page and they will receive regular updates. I will be posting livestreams Monday to Thursday at 10 am so please tune in for them.

Most of you now have now joined Google Classroom and have picked up your learning packs and are busy working on them. We know that some of you may be feeling overwhelmed but here is the thing...

Remember that the expectation is not a 9am-3pm day. It will be up to you to set up what works for you and your family. It needs to be what works for your family. You know what is best. Setting up little routines will help but this needs to work for your family.

Recognise that your child will be feeling the changes too. They may be unsure and may not understand what the changes mean to them. They have not experienced anything like this before. There are changes to school, to learning, changes with them not seeing their friends, changes to their routines, changes in their everyday life. They will be feeling all of the changes.

What our children need right now is a sense of calm. They need to feel comforted and time to talk through their concerns. Allow them time to ask questions and give a simple response based at their level. If possible take time to be present with them. Read a book together or watch an appropriate TV show together. Be together.

Our concern is mostly with wellbeing. Don't be concerned with learning and the potential regressing or going backwards. Just know that this is the same case for all students and we will face this when things return to some kind of normal. We want them to be as happy as they can be during this uncertain time. What will stay with our children the most is not what the learning looking like but more how they felt during this time. So make the time as pleasant as possible.

Let's work together on this. We are here to support along the way. We are all in this together. It may look different but we are still Iluka Public School.

Please let us know if there is anything more we can do.
