SCHOOL STREAM

  • The School Stream app complements & streamlines our current communication methods between school and home.

  • The School Stream app provides parents' and caregivers’ school contact information and easy access to school newsletters, notes and admin updates via their smartphones.

  • Under the Permission Notes and Absentee Notes tab parents and carers can now send notes directly to the school, such as absentee notes, by filling in the appropriate information, signing their name electronically, and clicking submit. Feedback, especially in relation to this particular tool, has been very positive.

Importantly, it is also being used for alerts including reminders for upcoming events, excursion arrival times, and sports day notifications.

You can download the School Stream app in three easy steps:

  1. From your device go to the App Store (iPhone/iPad) or Google Play (Android) search for School Stream and download the app to your phone.

  2. Make sure you agree to push notifications.

  3. Once School Stream has finished installing, open the app, type your school name into the search THEN select your school

If you prefer more detailed instructions please visit the School Stream Website (https://www.schoolstream.com.au/download/) in addition you could try the 'Installing and Deleting' (pdf 70 KB) instructions.

PRINCIPAL REPORT

Welcome back to Term 2! I hope all of our Iluka Public School community had a wonderful and relaxing holiday. Holiday periods for students are an opportunity to unwind and spend time with family and friends, creating special memories.

As the weather continues to change, please be mindful of the temperature and dress your child appropriately. Please do not put too many layers on your child, as they can overheat. We do have air conditioning and heating in all classrooms to ensure a comfortable learning environment all year round.

REMINDERS

MACLEAN SHOW DAY - WEDNESDAY 21 APRIL 2021 - HALF DAY PUBLIC HOLIDAY

The NSW Minister for Industrial Relations has announced that there will be a local public holiday on Wednesday 21 April 2021. The Maclean Show has been gazetted as a half day public holiday.

Iluka Public School will operate as usual until 12.00 pm when all staff will commence the local public holiday. From this time onwards, students are required to leave the school due to no supervision. Students will be unable to stay until our normal 3.00 pm finish time.

Busways have advised that there will be no change to its timetable. Therefore, buses will not pick up students at 12 o’clock, who would normally catch the bus home. Alternate arrangements will need to be made. A note regarding this event has been sent home at the end of Term 1.

Please contact myself or the main office on 6646 6149, if you have any further questions.

ANZAC DAY

One of the most important days on the school calendar is coming up this Sunday 25 April. It is of course, ANZAC Day. This year, the school will be conducting the town’s ANZAC Day Service. We are asking students to come along in full school uniform and meet at the school gates at 10.15 am to start the march at 10:30 am (sharp) PLEASE NOTE THAT THE TIME HAS CHANGED TO THE ORIGINAL NOTE SENT HOME LAST TERM. IPS will support the ceremony by marching alongside returned servicemen and women to the town cenotaph. RAAF representatives from the Base Amberley in Brisbane and our very own special guest speaker Sergeant Timm Plumb will be attending on the day. We will also be looking forward to the Hornets flyover. I thank you in advance parents, grandparents, carers and visitors for your attendance on the day. Following the ANZAC service, morning tea and ice blocks will be served back at the school.

Just a last word about our involvement on ANZAC Day. We, (the staff), are always very proud of our students and the wonderful support of the parents and carers. Many people from communities far and wide comment positively on the presentations during the formalities, the student's behaviour and the way they conducted themselves during the morning. I am very proud and privileged to be working at this school and look forward to the tradition continuing once again in 2021.

SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT DAY

Yesterday all staff from Iluka Public School attended a most productive day with the Gulmarrad Public School staff. Thank you to Club Iluka for allowing us to use their bus so that staff could travel together. For me, the highlight was seeing our staff working collaboratively and professionally to become better teachers. The day was extremely important and beneficial.

MOTHER’S DAY BREAKFAST

Tuesday, May 4 the school would like to invite Mothers’, Grandmothers and all significant ladies in the lives of Iluka Public School students to breakfast. We are hoping that this event is a very special occasion. Hopefully, a few Dads can come and volunteer to help out too! The school will be preparing a delicious supply of breakfast goodies including fruit, muesli and bacon and egg sandwiches. It will be a great way to start the day. Come on down from 7.30 am.

MOTHER’S DAY STALL

Also on Tuesday, May 4 the P&C will be putting on a stall displaying a range of gifts students may wish to purchase for Mothers’ Day. Gifts will range in price from $1 to $5.

THANK YOU TIMM & CAROLYN

Wow! It was so pleasing to see on our return the school grounds looking so beautiful, tidy and motivating. Thank you, Carolyn and Timm. I would like to give a special mention to Timm, who resourcefully and so capably was able to repair and replace the AFL posts which were vandalised over the holidays.

SCHOOL RENOVATIONS

As mentioned in Week 9, Term 1’s newsletter, we were approved for the initiative to have the multi-purpose court covered. Work on the sun structure will soon commence. It is early days yet, but preliminary testing of the ground soil started today. During the works, there may need to be areas that become Out of Bounds for students, staff and school visitors. We thank you in advance for your understanding and support.

CRUNCH AND SIP

Crunch and Sip is an important part of our daily routine across the school and will continue this term. Please remember to provide your child with some fruit or salad vegetables and water to drink in the classroom.

WINTER UNIFORM ATTIRE

The students are to wear full school uniform every day. As our days begin to get milder I would like to outline the winter school uniform requirements of IPS.

Boys are to wear:

• Grey shorts or tracksuit pants

• Red polo shirts

• Black school shoes with white socks.

• Red or grey jumper or red school jacket

Girls are to wear:

• Red or grey tracksuit pants or red or grey stockings/tights under skorts

• Red or Grey school jumper or red school jacket

• Black school shoes with white socks.

YOUNG LEADER’S MORNING TEA WITH KEVIN HOGAN

I wish to acknowledge Oceane and Lilly, from our Year 6 class, for taking time out of their school holidays to attend the Clarence Valley School leader's morning tea ceremony with Kevin Hogan MP. The girls met with Mr Hogan and his special guest, Clarence Valley Citizen of the Year Hayley Talbot, at the Grafton District Services Club on April 8. Both girls had an enjoyable tea, citing the karate with Mrs Talbot as a highlight of the morning. There were over 200 students and their family members attend this special event.

Have you had a chance to check out the recently added photos on the school website, under the gallery option? From last term, we added both the Cross Country Carnival and the Easter Hat parade.

Have a great week. Phil
