Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to Term 3 at Iluka Public School! I hope you were able to have some quality family time. It was wonderful to see the students again. The classrooms were full of learners and the playgrounds were full of games and laughter. The students seemed to be enjoying being back with their friends and classmates. It feels like the school has settled quickly into sound routines.

Yesterday, the staff had a Professional Learning Day. The staff gained an input into the school’s Strategic Improvement Plan. We looked at student and staff Wellbeing and went through rosters and the major calendar events for Term 3. It was a very productive day. I am extremely grateful to work with this amazing team of people and am a proud public school educator and principal.

Importantly, we are also still remaining vigilant. We are still following Department of Education, Australian Health Protection Principal committee and NSW Health guidelines. These include;

~ Regular supervised handwashing

~ Hand sanitiser in all classrooms

~ Social distancing where practical and possible

~ Additional cleaning of high touch points across the school

~ Any child or adult with cold, flu, temperature or just generally feeling unwell, is sent home.

~Unfortunately, we are still limiting adults to essential visitors only. No adults (parents/carers) are to enter the site unless they are an essential visitor or have a pre-organised appoinment.

The last point has been extremely well supported by our parent body. I appreciate your efforts in this area. As a school, we value the partnership with parents and carers in the education of your child. As a school, we enjoy catching up with parents. Currently this has been difficult. I thank you for your continued understanding and support.

The following activities are allowed to recommence in the school during Term 3:

• Scripture

• Canteen – recommences Monday 27 July

• All school sport and activities including competitions aligned with current health advice.

• In school events (choirs, sport, tennis, music)

• P&C meetings – Off the school site.

• Official visitors and dignitaries (consistent with current protocols)

• Staff meetings can be held taking into account physical distancing and maximum numbers in a space according to current health guidelines, or use on-line technology

Please check the Upcoming Events for full details.

Our school website has seen a few changes in recent times with the addition of the Home Learning Hub. Home Learning is where students can access their Google Classrooms and information related to home learning. Our school website is where you can find information related to how our school operates including policies and procedures. For access to day-to-day information, students and parents should refer to our school Facebook page.

Semester 1 Reports will be sent home Friday August 28. They will be a very brief overview of your child’s progress in Literacy and Numeracy so far this year. As data collection this year has been so heavily disrupted, assessments are based on nine weeks of face-to-face teaching and eight weeks of remote learning.

A quick reminder about uniforms. It is one of the fabulous attributes of Iluka Public School. I still commend the large body of students on their outstanding school uniform presentation. It shows they are proud members of this team. Just like weekend sport, a uniform unifies, shows pride and makes it equitable for everyone.

Have a good week, Phil.

Welcome back! Hope you had a safe and relaxing family holiday.

Mathematics - Over the next two weeks, our units of study will cover the key learning areas of Addition, Subtraction and Three-Dimensional Space.

*Our class library day is on a Monday.

*School banking recommences on Tuesday.

*Scripture classes for Kindergarten commence in a couple of weeks time.

Hello everyone,

I trust your break was relaxing as well as enjoyable. It must be fulfilling to have some quality time with your children. We look forward to having all students returning feeling refreshed and recharged for a busy Term 3.

Homework: routines resume. Homework is given out on a Monday and returned by Friday so that it can be marked and recorded. Homework reinforces skills that we are teaching in the classroom.

Home Reading: is another important component of our classroom and school routines. Children need to be practising their reading at home. We can see that those students who are regularly doing this are progressing at a faster rate than those that don’t. Children have the opportunity to borrow books each day from the classroom reader boxes. They can take two if they really want.

Reading: is a key focus in the classroom and we are working on establishing effective reading strategies to enable the children to tackle more difficult reading texts and vocabulary.

Athletics: is the physical focus for this term. The students seem to be really enjoying the array of activities.

Looking forward to a positive and productive term. Di

Welcome back for Term 3. I hope everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing holiday break. We are now looking to re-establish those good work habits and routines from earlier in the year.

Homework - Students will recommence homework this week. I encourage students to attempt all activities that they are able to do and seek assistance (from parents or teachers) where necessary. Homework will be marked in class on Friday, so students are asked to please return their sheet regardless of whether it has been completed.

Home reading - I would also like to see students back into the habit of reading a little each day. Home reading journals are collected on Wednesdays for marking.

Enjoy your week.

Mrs Cunningham was unavailable for class news at time of printing.

Remember: Library day is Thursday for the class. Also, Home Reading Journals are due for checking on the same day.

Welcome back to school and welcome to the second half of the year. As I am expecting a baby to arrive sometime this term there may be a time when I will be away on leave from school for a period of 3-4 weeks. This may affect your child's library day, however, you will be notified of this change when it occurs. Until then everything continues as normal with the following library days:

  • MONDAY - Kindergarten

  • TUESDAY - Year 1/2

  • WEDNESDAY - Year 3/4

  • THURSDAY - Year 5/6

BOOK FAIR This term I will be holding our first Book Fair for the year. This is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday of Week 2 and will be available until Thursday of Week 3. It will be open every lunchtime and every morning for all students to come and purchase items from the fair. Further details about parents coming onsite for those who would like to pay with a card will be announced on our Facebook page and in next week's school newsletter, as it is still unclear of the exact procedure allowed for these circumstances.

The school is still waiting for the arrival of 30 new laptops to be utilized by students during computer lessons. Hopefully, these new devices will arrive within the next few weeks so they can be rebuilt for our system before I take my leave.

STOP THE PRESS - They arrived late today! (Mr jones is going to be extra busy!!!)

I hope everyone has a smooth transition into school routines. Matt.
