It has been a very ‘different year’ to say the least and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the students and parents for their support and understanding throughout 2020.

A special thank you to our amazing P&C led by Tanya Williams. To the P&C Executive, Jessica Buchman, Oliver Dean and Karla Morrison thank you for your work behind the scenes to help support school initiatives and to build a strong inclusive community atmosphere. We really appreciate your outstanding commitment!

At the end of the year we sadly farewell families who have contributed a great deal to our school throughout their time here at Iluka Public School. Thank you to Courtney. We wish you and the boys Bailey and Jaylen all the very best. Thank you to Layla, Elijah, Travis, Philip and Matilda. We hope you look back fondly on your time at Iluka Public School and we wish you and your families the best for the future.

A huge thank you to our teaching and support staff for their dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment to ensure each child makes progress in their learning and feels connected to our school community. I am incredibly grateful for all that you do to support our students. I want to sincerely thank you, the wonderful

school community who have made a real difference to our school.

Thank you for the energy and enthusiasm parents and carers that you put into supporting your children in what was a unique year. I wish you all a safe and enjoyable holiday break with your family and I look forward to seeing you all in 2021.

It seems as though from time to time, we have a number of (holiday?) people who come into the school. If it happens before or after school, of course, make sure you inform me or at the very least, inform the office of something you have witnessed or are not happy about. Sometimes, we have people come in on the weekends or over the holidays too. Most of these people do come in and use the back playground in the right way, but a very small minority are only interested in causing damage or vandalising our property. If you notice any such behaviour going on within our school, could you consider ringing the school security unit to report suspicious activity on their 24-hour hotline number, 1300 880 021. Your assistance here is greatly appreciated to keep our school looking beautiful and functional for our wonderful students.

Today we held our annual, Iluka’s Got Talent Day. Students had a great day participating and performing in front of their peers. Congratulations everyone! It was an entertaining middle session!

Thank you to the Year 6 families for your attendance at Presentation Day. Thank you also to those who were able to join us via Zoom. Congratulations to all our award winners and elected school leaders for 2021, to the admin team and to our ICT guru, Mr Jones, for coordinating this special event. If any parent or carer has any feedback from the event please feel free to come and talk to myself. If you were unable to join Zoom for the ceremony you can receive a copy of the presentation on a USB. Students will need to bring a 16GB USB to school, as we are unable to provide them. Once copied, the USB will be returned home for your viewing.

It was great to see many students attend the Year 6 End of Year disco. Well done on dressing up 80s style and adding to the wonderful vibe of the night. Thank you to Karla and Tanika for cooking delicious pizza for us to enjoy. Thank you also to the teachers in attendance. As always it was very much appreciated. Thank you also to our photographer Leah. She has uploaded some terrific shots taken on the night, which can be viewed on our school website here. Click here to open the gallery.

The first day of the 2021 school calendar for all students K-6 will be Friday 29 January 2021.

Please be rest assured that staff and I have spent a considerable amount of time sorting and arranging classes and teachers for 2021. I believe we have created the best structure for all our students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Please note that this is a preliminary draft and that some changes may have to be made when classes resume on Friday 29 January 2021. Therefore, the proposed classes at this stage are;

Kindergarten / Year 1 – Miss Essery

Year 2/3 – Mrs Howard and Mrs Leseberg

Year 4 – Mrs Gardner

Year 5 – Ms Cunningham

Year 6 – Mr Speirs

Does your preschool child turn 5 years of age before 31 July 2021? Have you enrolled your child at Iluka Public School for next year? Now is the time to fill in your application. Please call into the office for an enrolment form as soon as convenient or arrange for one to be sent home with an older brother or sister.

See you next year. Phil

Congratulations to our outgoing Year 6. In what can only be described as a difficult year for fundraising, our Year 6 students through the Canteen Kids and End of Year Raffle were able to raise the large sum of $1,343.40. With immense support from the school and wider Iluka/Woombah communities the Year 6 students, with additional financial support from the school, have purchased a set of school blazers. These blazers will be able to be used at multiple functions, such as debating events, for students to wear when representing the school and for official visits. Thank you to Mrs Cunningham for assisting the students to provide such a wonderful farewell gift.

Prize winners of the End of Year Raffle are as follows:

  • First prize - 2 nights accommodation in a beautiful Queen Deluxe Cabin at the Anchorage Caravan Park (value of $200) - S. Gobius

  • Second prize - 5 kilos of King Green prawns donated by Sean Speirs (value of $125) - T. Plumb

  • Third prize - Two fishing rods (value $40), kindly donated by an Iluka Community member - V. Bennett

  • Fourth prize - Doterra Introductory Kit (value of $35) donated by Belinda Jones - S. Criddle

What a year it has been! I am so proud of our Kindergarten class of 2020. The students have worked hard and have persevered when times were tough. I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Hope your holiday is enjoyable and relaxing. See you all in 2021.

Farewell - It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Phillip and his family, as they will be moving out of our area. Best wishes for the future.

Moving Day - A big thank you to all the Year 4 students for their assistance in helping to move the Kindergarten resources into the Kindergarten/Year One classroom for 2021.

*Class party tomorrow. Students need to bring their own Crunch and Sip, recess and lunch. All other items will be provided for the party. Please note Kindergarten students do not need to bring a pillow for our movie.

Hello Everyone,

I hope you weren’t blown away by the strong winds over the weekend. What great rain though! Our lawns certainly needed it.

Work - will be coming home. Some sent on Monday and more today.

Last day - of school will involve some games and party fun. We were going to have a cool down under the sprinklers but it really isn’t the weather for it. Instead, in the morning we will watch a movie. The children are quite excited about that. Thanks to the Corston family for helping us out with the movie option, we really appreciate it. Children are to bring $3 to go towards hot chips for lunch, drinks and some party food. They can still bring fruit and recess.

Thank You Parents - for your support this year. Your positive feedback and words of thanks mean a great deal. We look forward to working again with you next year.

Year 1/2 - you have been such hard little workers this year. We have loved getting to know you. The growth you have made in your academic capabilities is truly amazing. Keep up that reading in the holidays. You have also grown personally. We look forward to continuing the journey with you next year.

Have a lovely peaceful Christmas. May it be a time to reunite, reflect and rejoice. Let’s hope 2021 shines a little brighter for us all. Di & Cath.

Class Party - On Wednesday 16th December we will be holding our class party in the afternoon. We will be watching a movie in the classroom. Popcorn and an icy pole will be provided. Students may wish to bring along a pillow/pillow pet/cushion for their comfort if desired. Students will still require their usual fruit break, recess, lunch and a water bottle.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank parents and carers for their support throughout the year. It has certainly been a challenging and extraordinary year, to say the least, but we made it.

To Year 3 students, I have enjoyed getting to know you this year and look forward to working with you again next year.

To Year 4 students, it has been a delight to teach you again this year. I wish you all the very best for Year 5 and I will miss the fun times we have had learning together.

Have a Merry Christmas and let’s hope 2021 brings positivity, happiness and good health to all.

Enjoy the break and stay safe!

Hi everyone

I would like to thank you all for your support in what has been a very interesting, challenging and fun year. The students have worked really hard this year. They have all shown courage, determination and skill. A Team status :] Thank you for your tremendous effort!

To the Year 5 students, well done and I look forward to seeing you all lead the way in 2021!

To the Year 6 students heading off to high school, may you continue to blossom and strive to be the best you can be at everything that you do. Remember to surround yourself with people that make you feel good, friends who will influence and encourage you to work hard in school. Keep persevering through new and difficult challenges and continue to try to make good choices. Be YOU!

Have a Merry Christmas. I hope it is reuniting, relaxing and rejuvenating!

All the best next year.

This week is stocktake. This involves SCAN, CLEAN, REPEAT.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday. Matt.

This year, staff will battle the Year 6 students in a friendly yet competitive game of Big Ball. The contest will be held as the best out of three games. Friendly banter and great teamwork from both sides will no doubt make for an entertaining match. Last year the students won, let's see if the staff can get on top for this year. We’ll keep you posted!

The competition is now in its 12th year. Congratulations to our two finalists for 2020, Emma and Amy-Leigh, who made it through to the Grand Final. The two students were to play the deciding game of tennis on Monday, but due to the extreme weather, it was postponed. As at the time of print, the weather was still thwarting our chances of holding the final. Fingers crossed we can get it underway tomorrow, on the last day of school!

To the small but super efficient and effervescent band of Tuckshop volunteers for 2020, we thank you very much for stepping up and helping out. To the families that have donated goodies or food staples throughout the year, thank you. To Karla, Sandy and Mark who volunteer week in, week out, we send you a massive thank you! We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas break and we look forward to seeing all your smiling faces in 2021.

Today was the last School Banking for 2020. As has been said many times before, what a year it has been! Thank you to those families who support our school and encourage your children to practice healthy saving habits each week.

At the time of print, the last Banking Rewards order had not arrived. For those students awaiting rewards items, we are sorry for the delay. If they arrive tomorrow, we will send them home with you. Otherwise, we will hold them over till next year.

Remember that you can make deposits at your local branch throughout the school break if you are keen to keep the saving rhythm going.

School banking will resume on Tuesday 2 February.

We look forward to seeing what the CBA School Banking adventure will be for 2021.
