Dear Parents and Carers,
Hello and welcome to Week 4.
Do you agree that the weeks certainly are flying by?
This week it has been great to catch up with the hardworking P&C Committee. They have been working hard on plans for Term 4. It has also been great to read some positive and constructive emails from parents and to also catch up and say hi (social distancing) with many parents lucky enough to attend the Small School Athletics Carnival. As always I appreciate your conversations and honest feedback.
This term we have already held several events showcasing our students’ fabulous efforts including debating, chess and sport.
Congratulations to our IPS Chess Team who competed in the Chess Gala day at Yamba Public School last week. Mr Speirs and the 9 boys had a great day challenging other local school teams and were 1 point away from winning the day! Well done on representing Iluka with pride.
I would like to congratulate our debating teams on their successful debates over the last three weeks. Your improvement has been noted across the teaching staff. This Friday the King's team will look to deliver another strong and convincing set of arguments and refute the Norfolk Island Public School’s arguments solidly. Good luck team.
SMALL SCHOOLS ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
Congratulations to our students who represented our school at last Friday’s Small Schools Athletics carnival. Can I thank all the staff for helping to make the carnival a success. Thank you Tough Timm for all your work in making the oval markings look better than the Tokyo Olympics. Our students performed very well and the following students: Elayna, Frankie, Shaun, Charlie S, Zade, Claire, Fraser, Kira, Olivia, Paige, Jonah, Tessah, Noah, Shanoah, Lilly, Emma, Ace, Sariah, Jade and Blaine have progressed on to the Northern Rivers Zone Athletics Carnival. Congratulations to Emma, (Snr Girls), Kira (11 yrs Girl), Frankie (Jnr Girls), and Fraser (Jnr Boys) on becoming Age Champions in their group. The Zone Carnival has been scheduled to run on Friday 20 August in South Lismore. Due to COVID-19 guidelines NO parents or carers can attend this event and a bus is being arranged to transport children to and from the venue. More details will be sent home on a separate permission note. Good luck to all our students.
ENROLLING NOW for KINDERGARTEN 2022
We are now taking enrolments for Kindergarten 2022. If you have a child ready to start school or know of another family with a child who will be in Kindergarten next year, it’s time to enrol at Iluka PS! You can pick up an enrolment form from either our office or complete an online enrolment form through our website, following this link: https://www.ilukapublicschool.com (the application form is on the bottom of the page).
STAFF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
Our teaching staff over the remaining weeks of this term will be engaged in eight hours of Student Wellbeing Professional Learning. Students with poor mental health is a very serious and relevant issue. We look forward to starting to implement suggested strategies in our school environment because we want to see our students, families and staff with the same awareness of looking after their mental health as they do for their physical health.
TOWN LIBRARY VISIT
This year’s Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book Week celebration is taking place on Friday 20 August. All students from K-6 have been invited to walk to the Iluka Town library to celebrate. This is always a popular event which will again include themed activities and a chance to explore our local town library. As part of Book Week the Clarence Regional Library has invited the children to dress up in the theme “Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds”. A separate permission note will go home today. Costumes can be bought or handmade! I cannot wait to see your fantastic creations!
100 DAYS OF KINDERGARTEN
Last Monday Kindergarten celebrated 100 days of learning at Iluka Public School. Special certificates were handed out at our morning assembly. During the day our Kindy students enjoyed catching up with their Year 6 buddies during recess and having a bit of a play again. Congratulations to our Kindys on this wonderful achievement.
UPDATED NSW DEC AND NSW HEALTH GUIDELINES FOR SCHOOLS OUTSIDE GREATER SYDNEY
