PRINCIPAL REPORT

DEAR PARENTS AND CARERS

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU….

As I have said many times, thank you for your extensive support during this period of Level 3 Guidelines. The continued support that you have given during this period (and don’t forget the floods and bush fires too!) is very much appreciated by all the staff. I hope that soon, my weekly Covid updates will no longer be needed and the newsletters will contain more of the happenings and achievements of the students.

UPDATED MASK REQUIREMENTS

To reflect the changes in community settings mask wearing requirements have been updated for schools. Masks are required for all staff in all indoor settings. (Staff no longer have to wear a mask outside.) Masks are recommended indoors for primary students.

**On Wednesday 27 October our Year 6 students will be holding their transition to high school day. Students will need to wear a mask whilst travelling on the bus and again at Maclean High School.

VENTILATION IN SCHOOLS

Ventilation is an important layer of support under the Covid-safe operations alongside mask wearing, reducing mingling across year groups and good cleaning and hygiene. The department’s ventilation recommendations have been formed by NSW Health advice.

The advice tells us that maximising natural ventilation in our learning spaces is the most effective method for minimising the spread of Covid-19 as it is a very effective way to disperse particles in the air. This can be best achieved by opening doors and windows. Recently, the department assessed the spaces in our school. According to the school’s report, all classrooms are size appropriate for our class sizes, with all windows working appropriately with any mediation works having already been completed.

TELL THEM FROM ME

This semester’s Tell Them From Me Survey is now live. This is your opportunity to reflect on the year and let us know how you feel about what we are doing as a school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. Results from the survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements.

The survey is conducted entirely online at home or on public computers. It will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential.

Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, however, your responses are very much appreciated.

To complete the survey, please click on the link and answer the questions. http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/tr44v

KINDERGARTEN 2022 - TRANSITION TO SCHOOL PROGRAM

One of my favourite times of the year is meeting our newest students who will start Kindergarten in the new year, and chatting with their families about this exciting time. Thank you to Mrs Howard for your wonderful preparation and for making the Kindy class of 2022 feel at ease. We cannot wait for you to begin and to share with you our supportive Iluka Public School community.

The staff are excited to welcome your child to our school. We are so fortunate that our Kindergarten transition program can continue. We look forward to welcoming our new classmates this Wednesday 27 October, commencing at 9.30 until 12.00 noon. To assist your child during this time please check out our video, ‘Starting School at Iluka PS’ and take a virtual tour of our school.

SPENCER STREET EXIT

It has come to our attention that the Spenser Street exit is becoming busier and busier. With that has come added dangers. Staff have seen cars parked across the exit gate, parked over the concrete footpath forcing students on to the road, cars double parked and students crossing the road without adults and carers. Please park safely and legally on the streets around our school. Park legally so you do not incur parking fines and demerit points but above all, park responsibly and safely so that our children remain safe.

CONTACT DETAILS

This past week I have asked parents to complete and update their contact details. We have seen how essential this information is, with our school colleagues at South Grafton PS having to contact trace due to Covid exposure. It is very important that we have the most up-to-date contact information for every family. It is essential that each family provides us with their current phone number and email address to ensure that we can contact you quickly in any emergency. A form was sent home last week to each family – I ask that you please complete it and send it back ASAP. Even if you think we have the correct details, please complete it, and send it back. Those that have already returned their details went into a prize draw. The school congratulates Sophie on winning a punching bag donated by the Wellspring Opshop.

SELECTIVE HIGH SCHOOL APPLICATIONS FOR YEAR 7 2023

Applications for placement in Year 7 in selective high school in 2023 opened on 19 October 2021 and will close on 17 November 2021. All applications are completed online and must be submitted by the due date. The closest selective High School in our area is Grafton, but if you are interested in further information and where these classes are located, please contact the school on 6646 6149.

2022 ENROLMENTS

Iluka Public School is currently taking enrolments for all years in 2022. If you are aware of anyone who is considering our school as an educational option for their children please ask them to contact the school and arrange for an enrolment interview. The best publicity our school can have is families already enrolled speaking positively about our school to their friends and family. We need to work together as a school community and support each other to continue to grow our school and ensure all students in our local area can experience the great opportunities provided by our school. As the school is already in the early stages of planning for 2022 it would be appreciated if you could let the office know if your circumstances have changed and you will not be returning to our school next year.

Have a wonderful week everyone and remember Interest Promotes Success!!

Phil

CLASS K/1 NEWS

It is extremely important that students attend school in the coming weeks, unless sick, as English and Mathematics concepts are being revised and final concepts taught. Students will then be assessed and the data collected from these tests will be used to complete our Semester Two student reports. If your child is away and missing out on revising and learning these final concepts, then their test results will reflect their absences.

Student Information Form - If you have not already done so, could you please return the student information form sent home last week. It is important that we have current phone numbers and emergency contact details should your child become ill or injured at school.

Hello everyone,

We have had some beautiful storm rain. Fortunately dodging some of that damaging hail that has hit areas close to us.
