PRINCIPAL REPORT

‘STRONG MARK’ SAYS HIS GOODBYES

It was with great sadness to receive the news that our Groundsman, Strong Mark, is leaving Iluka Public School. This Friday will be Mark’s last day. Mark has been with the school since 2003. I would like to thank Mark for the dedicated years of service and loyalty to Iluka Public School. I cannot thank him enough for helping me and the students and staff and for his work to make the school reach its full potential. His efforts have helped the school be a positive asset and something the community should be proud of. His smiling attitude through all types of weather and all the little things he did each day to help us will be sorely missed. Congratulations on a job well done. We wish him all the best.

DRESS UP LIKE STRONG MARK DAY

As our way of saying goodbye, this Thursday 25 March students are asked to dress up in their gardening/workers clothes or in other words, “dress up like strong Mark” for the day. Remembering that Year 2/3 and Year 4 are also attending the Maclean Swimming Pool (at this stage it is still on) and that they will need to change into their swimming costumes too!

WEEK 9

Our school has had another excellent week with a number of very successful activities completed despite the wet and wild weather we have been experiencing.

VEGETABLE WEEK

Last Thursday NSW Vegetable Week was celebrated. Our students and staff participated in the biggest Vegie Crunch. Thank you so much to parents and carers for supporting this occasion and also to Cole from our local IGA store for their donations to support our students and our school.

HARMONY DAY

Harmony Day is held every year on the 21st March to celebrate Australian multiculturalism, based on the successful integration of migrants into our community. Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values. This theme was celebrated last Friday, with students encouraged to wear the colour orange. The theme for this year’s Harmony Day was “We Belong”. A number of students shared their ideas during the whole school assembly on how they belong to Iluka PS. Our thanks to Mrs Gardner for leading this celebration.

PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS

The whole school, K-6, will be holding Parent/Teacher interviews this week and next. It is your chance to discuss the progress of your child/children with the classroom teacher. Miss Essery, Mrs Howard and Mrs Cunningham are organising their own times. Please send the return slip back to them with your available time. Please contact the office (66 466 149) if you require an interview with Mr Speirs and Mrs Gardner. If the nominated days are unsuitable, please let your child’s classroom teacher know and they will organise an alternative time. When you arrive for these interviews please sign in with the QR Code and outside each classroom will be a manual External Visitors sign in sheet for you to complete as well.

NSW DEC RURAL ACCESS GAP (RAG)

I have received excellent news this week that our school has been included in the NSW DEC Rural Access Gap (RAG) Direct Intervention Package which is focused on overcoming an inequity of access to digital technologies that support schools. The focus of the package is schools in rural, regional and remote areas of NSW. In total, it covers about 210,000 students in 1002 schools. Our school will receive an additional 14 laptop devices and 2 Interactive displays to be installed in our classrooms as part of our school entitlement through the NSW T4L. This is fantastic news for our school to ensure that our students have access to the best available technologies.

EASTER HAT PARADE

Our bi-annual Easter Hat Parade will be held on Thursday 1st April, commencing at 9.15 am sharp and concluding at 10.15 am. Pleasingly parents and carers are welcome to attend however you will need to sign on and scan the QR code in the office. Students that participate in the parade will go into a lucky door prize for each class. If their name is drawn out of their classes, they will be entitled to select a book from the collection found in the office of the library.

NEW SUN STRUCTURE OVER MULTIPURPOSE COURT

One of my goals on my school’s ‘bucket list’ has now been achieved. Recently, we submitted a quote to upgrade our basketball/netball/tennis facility by installing a new sun structure over the court. The court will also feature lights, enabling local clubs to use our court in all types of weather and after school hours. I now wish to confirm this initiative has been approved and we are hopeful of it being completed by the end of the year. This is great news! This new structure will mean our students and the community will have an outstanding sporting resource to utilise.

P&C NEWS

The next P&C meeting will once again be held as an Annual General Meeting, as a new committee is yet to be formed. The meeting will be held on Wednesday 31 March 2021 at 3.15 pm in the school library. All are welcome to attend. It will be wonderful to see some of the regular members and superb for any new members to participate. We look forward to continuing the healthy partnership between the school and the community.

TUCKSHOP @ THE CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL

With the upcoming Cross Country Carnival falling on a Friday, IPS’s P & C run Tuckshop will be holding a modified Tuckshop down at the oval (weather permitting). Only cold food items can be ordered or will be sold on the day - no pies, burgers, lasagne etc. There will be sandwiches, wraps, tea, coffee and general morning tea fare on sale.

If you are able to assist the Tuckshop by donating cakes, cupcakes, slices, sandwiches, pieces of fruit for sale it would be greatly appreciated.

In the unfortunate event that the cross country carnival must be postponed, a notice will be on School Stream and Facebook.

Have a great week. Phil

Cross Country - is this Friday. Bring some extra water and food.

Have a super week. Di

CLASS 4 NEWS

Hello and welcome to Week 9!

Homework - Thank you for supporting homework. Last week was the best return rate yet, so it seems to be working better for families with the flexibility of returning work on Friday (which still suited some students) or by Tuesday the following week. The latest sheet, which will be sent home on Wednesday, will be the last for this term.

End of Term Interviews will be held in Week 10. Please phone or call into the office and Leah will be able to assist you with a suitable time.

Swimming concludes this Thursday. Thank you to the students for their commitment to the five week program, especially on those rainy days.

Cross Country - Cross Country is being held at the school on Friday. Parents and carers are invited to attend and the school oval provides the best vantage point.

Easter Hat Parade will be held on the last day of term so you may want to start getting some creative ideas together.

Occupational Therapists - We have been so lucky to have Grace and Katrina visiting our class to work with students and help them in certain areas. It has been a fantastic opportunity to tap into their expertise. Students were especially appreciative of the opportunity to work with Grace and Katrina to decorate biscuits inspired by flags of the world for Harmony Day.

Have a wonderful week and see you on Friday at the Cross Country.

Kristy

LIBRARY/TECHNOLOGY

BOOK CLUB

Issue #2 of Book Club was ordered on Thursday and I have received a confirmation email that it was received successfully this time. If I have not received a dispatch email by Wednesday I will follow up with Scholastic, to make sure it will arrive before the end of the term, so students can enjoy their new books over the holidays.

STEM

As you are aware by now, the robotics have moved on. To finish off the term, over the next few weeks I will be doing some hands on STEM activities with all classes based around Easter. We will be using the lego, recycled materials, and other STEM items found in the library to allow students to choose to create a range of Easter related activities.

TELL THEM FROM ME

This week when I have the Years 4, 5 and 6 students they will be completing their Tell Them From Me survey. This survey provides our school with some very valuable feedback on how students are going with their learning, wellbeing and overall attitude towards their learning and school. The TTFM survey is totally anonymous and and our schools takes this feedback very seriously from our students.

And on a final note, congratulations to Emma and Jade who over the last weekend competed at the State Little Athletics Championships in Sydney.
