Congratulations to all our students and staff…
Considering the wild winds and smoke filled sky, Iluka Public School has been and remained a very settled school last week. The terrible conditions across the river reminded us on the importance of our Evacuation / Fire Drill procedures. Remember students and parents that if you hear the hand ringing bell continuously for 30 seconds we assemble calmly on the back oval. On several occasions we have rehearsed this process just in case.
As we head into the final weeks of another term, it’s time to stop and reflect on what we have done so far. What with Education Week, School and District Athletics, Rugby League, Basketball, Open Day, Debating, SAS Week and the major Canberra Mount Selwyn trip and local excursions too, it’s been a busy time! There are still plenty of things left to do this term (See Notes.) Please keep an eye out for announcements on our website or Facebook page so that you are up to date with the latest news!

150 Nights Home Reading
On the final Whole School Assembly for the term, I was thrilled at the number of students who received their 150 Nights Home Reading Awards. Congratulations on reaching this important milestone.
Iluka Public School Concert - Every Student, Every Voice
Thursday 26 September will be the evening of our Iluka Public School Concert. Over the past 10 weeks classes have been creating 2 items which will be performed on the night. Every student will have an opportunity to perform with their class. Parents will not be required to purchase tickets, it’s free! Students need to arrive at 5.45pm. Our concert will be held at the Iluka Community Hall, starting at 6.00pm and concluding at 7.30 pm. We encourage all parents and friends to come along and view the show. It will be wonderful to have our Director of Education Leadership, Mr John Baker attend the night.
Kindergarten Enrolments 2020
Now is the time to lodge enrolment forms for Kindergarten 2020. The front office or myself will happily provide assistance, a guided tour of the school and information. Often it can be families with younger Iluka Public School siblings that leave enrolment to the last minute. Submitting enrolment forms early assists the school in planning for Transition Days and identifying anticipated 2020 class structure.
Parents and teachers both get concerned when students fall behind in their studies because of long absences. Families who plan to travel are encouraged to travel during school holidays. Parents are reminded they must seek permission from the Principal to take a student out of school during term time. If you are planning to take your child out of school during term time, please see the front office as a form is need to be completed for the duration of your child’s absence. (An itinerary or airline ticket must also be provided).
Congratulations to Emma who has made it through to State Athletics in Sydney, representing the North Coast region. Emma qualified in first place in both shot put and discus at the recent Regional Athletics Carnival. What a wonderful achievement Emma. We wish you all the best at this next level!
TELL THEM FROM ME SURVEY
This term, our school is taking part in the Tell Them From Me parent survey. The parent survey helps to clarify and strengthen the important relationship between parent and school.
The parent survey provides school principals and school leaders with parents’ perspectives on their school as well as learning at home. Communication between parents and staff, activities and practices at home, and parent views on the school’s support of learning and behaviour help build an accurate and timely picture that schools can use for practical improvements. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help them improve. The survey is completed on-line and is run by an independent research company, The Learning Bar, which specialises in school-based surveys. Staff in schools will not be able to identify individual responses. Once the surveys are completed, reports are prepared and are made available to schools.
Please use the following link to complete the survey: www.tellthemfromme.com/iluka
Last week’s P&C meeting was unable to go ahead due to lack of numbers possibly due to weather conditions. The P&C committee has scheduled the next meeting for Monday 14 October at 7.00 pm in the staff room.
Have a great week
YEAR K/1 CLASS NEWS
School Concert- An information sheet was sent home last Friday outlining the clothes that Kindergarten and Year One students require for their dance item. For our second item, students will need a raincoat. I also need 7 children sized, brightly coloured umbrellas as props. If you have any umbrellas that we could use, please send them to school before this Friday. As we get closer to our school concert, it is important that final adjustments are made to our class items prior to our performances on stage. Please let me know in advance if your child will not be present for our school concert.
Assembly Awards- Congratulations to the following students who received Merit Certificates at our Whole School Assembly on Friday: Kindergarten - Pala, Willow, William and Year One - Rex, Charlie and Bailey. Well done to all the students who received their 150 nights reading certificate at our awards ceremony. The students were once again excited to win the Uniform Award.

Students will need to organise suitable clothing for the performance - red sport shorts (or red skort) and either a white t-shirt or singlet (Team Lakers) or a black t-shirt or singlet (Team Tigers). The school has kindly purchased sweat bands to compliment the outfits of the students during their high energy performance.
Touch Gala Day - The majority of Year 4/5 signed up to be a part of the Touch Football Gala Day in Yamba this Friday. Please ensure permission notes are returned and $5 if travelling with the school on the ferry.

If your child has reached 150 nights and they didn’t receive an award, please encourage them to bring in their journal. Also, if students have fallen short of the target, the school holidays are a wonderful opportunity to get back on track.
Please return permission notes for the Touch Football Gala Day, School Concert rehearsals, Life Education Van and the Dorroughby excursion (Year 4 only).
Have a lovely week.
