WEEK 9 NEWS, TERM 3
SCHOOL ADMINISTRATIVE AND SUPPORT STAFF RECOGNITION WEEK; 6 - 10 SEPTEMBER
This week is SASS Recognition Week, an opportunity to acknowledge the contribution our SASS staff make to our school. At Iluka Public School we have a wonderful SASS team who work in the office, library, school grounds and classrooms. This team always goes above and beyond to support everyone in our school community. Our SASS team are the heart of our school and we appreciate everything they do. Especially during this difficult period, they have gone above and beyond to support everyone in our school, from the teaching staff, to the students and families as well as each other. Our great office team and SLSOs work tirelessly to make sure no-one is left behind throughout one of the most trying times in recent history. Thankyou Lyn, Leah, Lisa, Caitlin and Timm for your professionalism, contributions and dedication to our Iluka community.
Thank you to all of our families who have supported the school during the COVID-19 lockdown. From our students at school, to students working on paper packs and to our students on-line learning, all students are trying their best and are working hard.
Thank you also to the many parents/carers who have contacted the school (via the survey) to thank teachers for their work in ensuring their child/ren continue to learn.
Our teachers at Iluka Public School have been working hard to create engaging on-line lessons and paper packs that align with our curriculum.
Last week I attended a Zoom Story Time reading session with over 40 students in attendance. Mr Jones read a very funny book, Jack and the FlumFlum Tree, with lots of enthusiasm. This was followed by a Kahoot game. Well done Jonas for winning. Today’s Zoom Story Time, No! Never!, and Kahoot session was also a success. Congratulations to Beau for taking out today’s game. A big thank you to Mr Jones, for your clever creation of the Kahoot games, providing comprehension of the stories in a gamification format! Please join our School Stream app to get the Zoom invitation.
Thank you to all staff at Iluka Public School for their flexibility in our changing environment and for their hard work.
ATTENDANCE DURING LEARNING FROM HOME
We would like to congratulate all our families for their commitment in collecting, returning, and keeping teachers up to date about what is happening with their children at home.
As we undertake Learning from Home we measure our students’ attendance through their engagement in the tasks set on the online platforms, or collecting, attempting (at least some of the work) and returning paper packs. If teachers are seeing any attempts at work, students are being marked as being in attendance.
If students do not pick up their work packs from school they will be marked as absent unless other arrangements have been made with the class teacher.
Our teachers are working hard to ensure students’ work and the tasks are engaging.
KINDERGARTEN 2022 - TRANSITION TO SCHOOL
In early Term 4 we will be sending out new details of our upcoming Transition to School events.

The Department of Education has a helpful resource for parents and carers called ‘Everyday Maths’. Please following the below link to find out how you could investigate mathematical ideas at home: https://education.nsw.gov.au/campaigns/mathematics/domain
READING EGGS PROGRAM / LAPTOPS
In line with the feedback received from recent surveys the school has purchased 50 licences enabling all
K - 4 students the opportunity to use the Reading Eggs program. If you believe this will be helpful and you would like to borrow a laptop (sign it out), please contact the office on 6646 6149, Mr Jones or the classroom teacher to arrange this and get your login details.
In readiness for the upcoming school holidays, please return all laptops to school by Thursday next week for network updates.
CLASS K/1 NEWS
Reading Eggs - Iluka Public School has purchased the program ‘Reading Eggs’ for all students in Kindergarten and Year One. While this is an excellent supplementary program to support and consolidate learning within the class, human interaction (whether from teachers or parents) is the best mode for student learning. Login details will be made available to students and families next Monday.
Learning From Home - Dust off the cobwebs from those school uniforms!!! This week our class challenge is for the Kindergarten and Year One students to get dressed up in their school uniform, take a photograph of your child holding up a completed piece of school work, send the photograph to school and when all photographs have been received a class video depicting Learning from Home in 2021 will be made.
CLASS 2/3 NEWS
Spring is here! The lovely sunshine is mellow and the waft of blossom in the air is refreshing. Hopefully all is well in your households.
We have combined Weeks 9 & 10 together in our Learning from Home booklet. A few readers have also been included.
Please return folders with completed work so it can be checked and we can see what work your child has been working on.
I hope all fathers were remembered appropriately on Sunday.
