Firstly, I would like to thank our staff for being so pro-active, flexible and supportive of the changes to routine due to recent bushfires.
It was with great pride last Tuesday that we watched our potential school leaders for 2020 bravely address students and teachers during their speeches. Each and every student who addressed the school should hold their head high as they all did themselves, their families and the school proud. Congratulations to the students who have made it into our School Leadership Team for 2020. I look forward to working with you all on the many events and duties that are required by our school leaders. Our new School Captains and Prefects for 2020 were announced at our Presentation Assembly today. Congratulations to all. Formal recognition will be in next week’s newsletter.
As we head into the busy end of Term 4, I am particularly proud and honoured to be the Principal of this amazing school. Today I took the opportunity to thank our amazing students, parents, community and staff at the Presentation Day Assembly. It was a wonderful morning and I thank all those who could attend. Tonight, it’s time to celebrate our Year 6 students and their time at Iluka PS with the annual disco, and to wish them luck on their new journey to High School.
Thank you to Mrs Howard for organising the Iluka PS Tennis Championships. Iluka Public School certainly have some talented tennis players. We look forward to the Grand Final when Decoda will play Eddie for the prestigious Golden Racquet Award, to be held next Tuesday 17 December on the school tennis court. All are welcome to attend.
I would like to recognise Mr Jones, who is working very hard in several roles at the moment. In the library he is doing the annual stocktake. All library books are now due to be returned. Notes are going home in the coming days for those students who have outstanding books. Books either need to be returned or replacement payment made with the slip provided. As well, Mr Jones is reorganising the computer room in readiness for it to become a new classroom. Next year, the computer room will be situated in the current Year 4/5 room. More details for 2020 will be announced in next week’s newsletter. Finally, Mr Jones has been very busy putting together a number of important slide shows, video clips and photo galleries in preparation for the upcoming assemblies and farewell to our Year 6 students. I thank him very much for his efforts in these areas.
I know many parents are aware, but I would like to reaffirm that students are kept off the back oval on days when there is very poor air quality or excessive heat. Children who suffer from asthma should have a puffer with them at all times.
Semester two reports will be provided to your child on Friday. The reports are a result of rigorous and continuous assessment and provide information for you regarding achievements to date and individual learning goals. Please take the time to look over the report with your child and celebrate their successes. Remember if you would like to discuss the report further an appointment needs to be made through the office.
I can’t believe that we are up to the second last week of the school year again so soon. On Wednesday (tomorrow) we are holding our Catch-Up/Thank you/Goodbye Morning Tea. It commences at 11.00am. It is the last chance for the school community to get together before we break for the summer. Please come along and join us if you can. I’d also like to mention that our final Whole School Assembly will be held this Friday 13 December at 2:15pm. We would love to see you there. For any students who may have Special Awards due, please bring them into me before Friday.
Similarly, I look forward to seeing many parents at this year’s Christmas Carols, being held on the school grounds this Wednesday evening. Could we please remind all students that the play equipment and top area of the school remains out of bounds. Parents support for this would be appreciated. Many thanks to those families who have volunteered some time on the P & C BBQ at the carols. We very much appreciate your help and support. If you would like to assist please let the office know and you will be advised a time slot.
I hope you have an enjoyable week. Phil
YEAR K/1 CLASS NEWS
Excursion - Kindergarten, Year One and Year Two excursion is this Thursday 12th December. Students are required to be at the Iluka ferry terminal by 8:30am. Students will need to wear their sports uniforms and school sun safe hat. Enclosed and sturdy shoes are essential. Students will need to bring food/drink for recess and lunch. Cost is $5. Please return the permission note and $5 as soon as possible.
Home Reading - On Friday, home reading will cease for 2019. Please ensure that all home readers are returned and that your child’s reading journal is up to date. Students who have reached 200 nights of reading will receive their certificate at our whole school assembly this Friday.
Water Slide - Due to Iluka Public School being non-operational for a two week period, each student will have an additional 15 nights added to their journal record to compensate for this lost reading time. Therefore students who have reached the milestone of 185 nights of reading, will be invited to participate in the school water slide activity on Monday 16th December.
Class Party - On Wednesday 18th December, last day of school, we will be holding our class party. We will be playing some party games and watching a movie. Students do not need to bring in any party food, as I will be providing the treats while we are watching the movie - fruit, biscuits/cheese/dip, popcorn and chips. Reminders
*It is important that students wear their correct school uniform and black shoes this week, as our class is trying to win the uniform award again!
*Semester Two students reports will be sent home this Friday.
